On Thursday, May 7, 2020 a virtual May Crowning was held for the Immaculate Conception family. “May Crowning” is a time honored Catholic devotion that recognizes Mary as Queen of heaven and earth and occurs in the month of May.
Traditionally, at Immaculate Conception School, this event occurs with the entire school gathered on the school grounds. The graduating seventh grade class plays a special role in the ceremony. A group of boys carrying a statue of Mary lead a procession of students reciting the rosary. During the rosary, the statue is crowned by a member of the class.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, this year’s ceremony included a small group of administrators along with the school’s student government association officers. The four students representing their graduating class were Rylee Schexnayder, Cole Stephan, Brooke Ritter and Caleb Nguyen. The ceremony was livestreamed for the entire community on YouTube.
